SPACES4CHANGE: Up to £5,000 available to transform a local space

Have you got a big idea for a place in your local community? Have you spotted an awesome unused space that is just perfect to be transformed? Well, you’re in luck – because there’s still chance to submit ideas to UnLtd’s big Spaces 4 Change fund. It could be your chance to make a real different to your local community, an award of up to £5,000 to transform somewhere into something of real community value. Are there empty shops? Unused park spaces? Or just somewhere you walk past everyday that could be transformed? Spaces 4 Change is open to a huge range of social venture ideas too – from retail, to pop-ups, to performance spaces, somewhere for healthy living or sport, a workshop or something else entirely! Check out the hashtag #Spaces4Change and apply online. #Spaces4Change is a new programme for young social entrepreneurs to make a real difference to their local community by transforming an unused or underused place. It’s a chance to create something new, starting a social venture in a place that will help make a local community a better place to be. Spaces 4 Change is for young people between 16 and 24-years-old from across the UK, and is centred around unlocking the potential of unused or under-utilised spaces - especially if it’s comprised of young people. From the end of 2016 until 2019, 100 awards for young leaders and collectives will be up for grabs. These awards consist of up to £5,000 of project funding, dedicated award managers giving tailored support, consistent cohort support and peer-to-peer networking opportunities. The first deadline for expressions of interest is January 15th 2017. UnLtd has previously supported Lamlash Gardens project in Elephant & Castle. Alongside the funding and the expert support, the young people taking part in  Spaces 4 Change will also have the opportunity to crowdfund with support from the professionals at Spacehive. This will enable the young person to demonstrate tangible support from the local community for their idea, to develop skills and increase the chances of sustainability of the social venture. The deadline for the first expressions of interest is January 15th.
