Five national partners selected to help England age better

A £250,000 fund will nurture great ideas to make a difference to the lives of older people in England. We are delighted to announce the five partner organisations that have been chosen to help England age better. The partners will contribute to a £250,000 fund backed by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to identify and nurture great people with ideas that will really make a difference to the lives of older people. The partners selected are: Wellbeing Enterprises CIC (Merseyside), an award winning social venture that believes in mobilising the skills and capabilities of local people to address priority health and social issues for older people. Hammersmith United Charities, a 400 year old organisation investing in the people and communities in the 8 northern wards of Hammersmith & Fulham to tackle poverty, deprivation and disadvantage. Leeds Community Foundation, whose vision is to create positive change in the communities of Leeds that need it most by investing in passionate and resourceful individuals. Hyde Charitable Trust (HCT), part of The Hyde Group housing association (London and the South Region), which is committed to finding opportunities for innovations and research around emerging needs and challenges to create positive social change. Somerset Community Foundation, in partnership with the South West Academic Health Science Network, Devon Community Foundation and Cornwall Community Foundation. Each have well-developed local networks across the not-for-profit, public and business sectors and undertake a variety of specialist roles. Mark Norbury, Chief Executive Office of UnLtd, commented: 'These partners share our ambition to support inspiring social entrepreneurs who are addressing key issues older people experience. The partners bring to the table deep expertise in the health and care sector and a profound understanding of the communities they support. We’re looking forward to working together to find leaders with powerful solutions to redefine the experience of ageing'. Each partner will get the benefit of UnLtd’s unique model, skills and expertise with the aim of together finding effective ways to provide support, resources and knowledge, so that social entrepreneurs can succeed. The project comes off the back of our successful work supporting 21 social entrepreneurs tackling challenges related to ageing, in partnership with the Coutts Foundation. That initiative has so far benefited 6,544 people through backing social entrepreneurs including the Sporting Memories Network, which uses the power of sporting stories to tackle the effects of dementia and depression, and Growing Support, which helps older people get back to nature, improving mental and physical health.
