The apprenticeship for entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs is almost ready for launch – after two years of development by UnLtd and a group of over 100 employers and other organisations. Leading employers interested in the apprenticeship scheme got together with other organisations to find out more at a breakfast meeting hosted by Deutsche Bank, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2016. The event was addressed by Sue Husband, Director of Apprenticeships and Delivery Service at the Skills Funding Agency, pictured above. Sue was speaking on behalf of the Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills, Robert Halfon, who said: Apprenticeships offer people a ladder of opportunity to gain the vital skills they and businesses need to succeed. Our reforms have been putting more control in the hands of employers, and this is clearly working. It’s fantastic to see how over 100 organisations have successfully worked together to create the Apprenticeship for Entrepreneurs and Social Entrepreneurs standard. The apprenticeship standard for entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs, defining the expected knowledge, skills and behaviours of successful apprentices has already been approved by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills. A new employer brief has now been created to provide more information on how it will work in practice. The last step on route to implementation is the submission of the assessment plan – due to happen in January - which outlines how the apprentices’ work will be evaluated during and at the end of the apprenticeship. After that, employers and training organisations will be able to apply on the Department’s website to take part in the scheme. Any employers or training organisations that would like to be involved in the first wave of apprenticeships in 2017, please get in touch via apprenticeships or contact David Pollard, Director of Southern Business Growth Network and chair of the apprenticeship employers group.
